Job title: Senior Actuarial Associate, Reserving ( P&C)

 Location: Downtown Toronto (Currently working from home)

 

This opportunity encompasses a variety of responsibilities and oversight, including but not limited to the following:

Reserving:

  • Quarterly assessment of claims and premium liabilities, including setting of assumptions and assessing the impact of assumption changes
  • Compilation of quarterly reserving management reporting, complete with analysis and communication, including Board and management presentations
  • Coordinating auditor and regulatory requests
  • Assisting in developing business planning and forecasting assumptions
  • Working closely with the VP, to draft the Appointed Actuaries Report
  • Working closely with a number of teams, not limited to Claims, Underwriting, Finance, Risk, IFRS17 project team, and Head Office for various reporting, modelling, and data assumptions/trends

People Management:

  • Managing the Actuarial Analyst and dotted line oversight to the Actuarial Co-op student(s)
  • Providing technical training and mentoring (guidance and review), performance management, and development to direct reports
  • Contributing to an engaging and collaborative work environment that supports in attracting top talent to the organization

Continuous Improvement:

  • Streamlining reserve setting and reporting processes
  • Leveraging analytics to reinforce presentation of results
  • Keeping abreast of the Canadian Property & Casualty industry knowledge and developments

You will demonstrate a natural desire to accomplish amazing work by being self-motivated, curious, and driven. You have demonstrated strong communication skills that help enable you to maintain solid working relationships with both internal and external teams.

In addition, we are looking for the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, or equivalent
  • ACAS/ACIA or working towards FCIA
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty work experience
  • Experience with reserving and financial forecasting preferred
  • Experience in a people manager capacity
  • Keen strategic thinking, business acumen, and problem-solving skills
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to make technical decisions (e.g. modeling decisions, data decisions) with demonstrated sound judgement in actuarial decision making
  • Well developed organizational skills, with the ability to analyze current processes and procedures and recommend and implement improvements
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work in all areas of the company collaboratively to achieve results under tight deadlines
  • Ability to handle a number of diverse projects and coordinate the activities of others in a performance-oriented culture
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). MS Access and/or Power BI (or comparable data visualization tools) are an asset
  • Knowledge of IFRS17 is an asset
