The Opportunity:

We are looking for an Accounting Manager for our valued client.  Reporting to the VP of Finance and Risk, this role is responsible for overall operations of the accounting department. 

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and property insurance experience with knowledge of IFRS.  In addition, the person will possess strong communication skills and decision-making skills.

About You:

You provide clear leadership and direction and take the utmost responsibility when it comes to monitoring workload and production levels. You love to get your hands dirty with projects and are instrumental in seeing these projects succeed to make improvements for the department.

You thrive and enjoy the reporting aspect and love the responsibility!  You have experience with financial statements, reinsurance accounting, investments, and regulatory filings.

You love to share your knowledge and are open to changing things based on best practises and efficiencies.  You provide support to the organization and will implement, monitor and report internal controls.  A key component of this role is developing and maintaining a positive relationship with the internal and external stakeholders. Leadership skills and coaching and mentoring employees is very important to you as well.


Necessary qualifications include:

  • Professional Accounting Designation
  • 5+ or more years accounting experience plus 2-3 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Insurance industry experience a definite asset
  • Proficient in computer/accounting operating systems/data warehousing
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and auditing practises including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Project Planning Experience
  • Recruitment and selection skills as well as developing employee engagement and performance reviews
