Commercial Experience is a Must within an Insurance Company 

 

Summary:

  • Lead Canada Underwriting Assistant team which is comprised of 2 Team Leaders and 15 Underwriting Assistants
  • Support the Canada CEO / Chief Agent with Business and Chief Agent duties as it relates to internal and regulatory matters
  • Active member the Canada Management Team (MT) and the North America Operations Leadership Team (LT)
  • Deliver proactive and efficient business service support
  • Ensure sustainable operations by embedding a strong operational risk framework and legal & regulatory compliance in all operating processes
  • Collaborate with regional and functional departments and interact regularly with senior management
  • Lead the Operations team through business and operations change programs including; product launch, process standardization and system implementations

  • Duties and responsibilities directly impact operational sustainability, effectiveness and efficiency of the local branch office.


Position Scope Data:

  • Ability to manage and interact at senior management level in Canada and across North America
  • Management position with leadership responsibilities
  • Close collaboration with branch management, underwriters, regional operations office, practice leads and global operations team.
  • Leader must be able to work effectively in a matrix environment

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Underwriting Assistants with responsibility to drive delivery for our customers by managing capacity, resource steering and planning, training & development
  • Ensure seamless processing of business providing support to Underwriters and provide a high level of service and quality delivery to the business
  • Ensure quality and timely service delivery of off shored services
  • Engage with internal practice leaders and managers for Business Services, Claim Operations, Technical Accounting and Finance to ensure timely delivery of services supporting local business production
  • Build relationships across all functions to ensure NA COO and Canada CEO are fully informed of all significant operational issues
  • Analyse and monitor the operational activities through operational metrics and controls
  • In conjunction with Canada CEO and NA COO, deliver and coordinate Office & Facility management, such as departmental planning, monitoring budget & expense reporting, knowledge and record management and responsibility for Business Continuity Management (BCM) plans
  • Support CEO/Chief Agent on all regulatory and compliance processes and filings
  • Lead operational readiness for new product / system / business initiatives and go to market approach to ensure client commitments are executed
  • Participate on Regional and / or Global initiatives as a subject matter expert representing Operations in general and Canada specifically
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance of the branch office in all operating processes
  • Ensure a solid risk and control framework is being maintained
  • Provide strong leadership and coaching to the team, including training, mentoring and at times of high workload be a working manager
  • Assume responsibility and actively manage small projects, and participate on projects.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Interact with on-shore/off-shore teams as appropriate
  • Lead Canadian Operations projects.
