Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee National Claims Services with the objective of maintaining quality and stability. Liaise with and act as a resource on claims matters employees, independent Adjusters; legal professionals and vendors for claims related matters.  Maintain professional business relationships with all parties to bolster support and claims services for clients. 

Detailed responsibilities:

  • Resolve escalated claim matters promptly and offer value added services to clients by developing/designing/implementing and monitoring account specific special claim handling instructions
  • review daily loss run claim reports
  • plan/host meetings with claims personnel to discuss current and high priority claims matters
  • prepare presentations of claims data and assist clients, underwriters, and Canadian branch with all claim’s matters.
    Review Serious Loss Reports (large loss) submissions to ensure accuracy prior to sending for review to head office –
  • Create and complete specific claims presentations for partner company claims staff to support their understanding of our specialized claims processes, procedures, and special claim handling account specific instructions.
  • Responsible for the review of Independent Adjusting claim services rendered and selection of which firm to use.
  • Oversee TPA and insured claims & administrative agreements and claims handling relating to fronted business
  • Manage collection of funds from non-Canadian Reinsurers on Reinsurance ceded and payments of claims on Reinsurance Assumed in a timely manner.
  • Direct the administration of dealer claims and recoveries.  Review and correspond with dealers relating to pre-approval of transportation damage claim requests via e-mail in both French and English.  Provide transportation claim training to Canadian dealers as required.
  • Report on claims matters requested to head office
  • Monitor/analyze/ensure quality management of claim handling for all lines of business (including but not limited to Auto, Liability, and Property) in accordance with the company’s philosophy and best practices. 
  • Hold meetings to discuss claim status on individual outstanding claim files for all line of business.

Day to day tasks:

  • Develop, recommend, and implement short- and long-term objectives consistent with company business goals, guidelines, and programs.
  • The oversight for claims and claims handling
  • Respond to escalations (claim issues)
  • Act as a resource for claims; Support examiners direct the actions of independent adjusters as needed.
  • Direct and help examiners with the resolution of complex claim files as needed
  • Support examiners with the review of IA reports and advise of any amendments required as needed
  • Ensure files are moved along so that they can close without too much delay or issues as they come up
  • Review SLR matters; FAC Reinsurance, Assumed
  • Oversight for Canadian claims handling
  • Handle recovery cheques for inland marine claims
  • Request loss run reports and verify that all are being distributed based upon the reports.

Qualifications: 

  • 5 to 10 years of claims experience
  • 1 + years of claims management experience
  • CIP or actively pursuing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to build internal and external relationships
