Job description Overview

 Working with our distributors to help their clients is at the core of the company’s underwriting.   Our underwriters specialize in group disability products while offering the full range of pooled employee benefit programs. We are continuously improving our underwriting technology to free you up to spend more time with the distributors. We believe that technology must support the human conversation rather than replacing it. Our focus is on engaging with our distributors to offer products for specialized needs.

Major Responsibilities

 • Mentor and lead underwriting and service teams

• Develop relationships with existing and new distribution partners

• Act as a subject matter expert for brokers and clients, and identify ways the company’s disability portfolio can address concerns and create opportunities for these partners

• Provide product training and expertise in video conferences, over the phone and when the opportunities restart – in person

• Underwrite critical renewals and new business quote requests for Life and Disability products

• Provide guidance to underwriting team on challenging / large quotes and renewals

• Work with the Head of Group Benefits and the underwriting team to ensure we are writing competitive but profitable business

• Help manage account service and exception requests, pricing negotiations, and general questions regarding organizational capabilities

 • Work with your team members and the company’s leaders to identify opportunities and solutions for product and process improvement

 • Lead responses for RFP opportunities and participate in finalist presentations

• Work across all departments to solve client issues, challenges and escalation

• Manage relationship with partner carriers

Senior Manager / Director, Underwriting Attributes

• Strong written, presentation and verbal communication skills and comfortable in a client facing role

• Expert knowledge of group benefits acquired through a minimum of 5-7 years of group benefits experience, ideally in an underwriting capacity

• University degree in finance, economics, business or mathematics

• The ability to operate in a fast-paced environment in a rapidly evolving organization
