Description

Working with a leading MGA that is looking for a Director of Construction. This role will sit on the executive committee and have a direct impact on the success of the department. Looking for a strong Construction Underwriter with either leadership experience or the desire to quickly grow into a leadership role.

Title: Director of Construction

Location: Toronto or Ottawa with flexibility to work from home.    

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Income/Targets. Review results and compare to targets and last year and develop action plan when targets are not being met. Work with Head of Underwing and Operations to create budgets and targets. Work with Business Development Manager on strategies to meet income targets
  • Monitor monthly lineage reports
  • Managing Renewals, assign to the team and work towards retention targets
  • Claims Bordereaux, review monthly for any issues
  • Knowledge of Product, provide training to team as required
  • Underwriting Guidelines. Use reports and evidence to provide fact-based knowledge to make relevant changes to underwriting guidelines. Work with head of Underwriting to present proposed changes to underwriting guidelines to markets
  • Compliance, accountable for internal guidelines and compliance standards being met
  • Underwrite files to help team achieve income targets and achieve personal targets. Assist team with complex risks as needed
  • New Hires & Employee Management. Interviewing potential new hires as needed. Work with operations to create training schedule for new hires, supervise staff by providing coaching and performance reviews
  • Growth, work with internal partners to strategically target new brokers and improve processes

Qualifications

  • 5 + years of underwriting experience in construction
  • Strong broker relationships
  • Post secondary education or work experience
  • Experience in leading others, or desire to develop leadership skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Organized and ability to manage time effectively
  • Team oriented and ability to work well with internal and external partners
