Rare opportunity in the Reinsurance industry as a Treaty Claims Expert.  My client is looking for an individual with a strong P&C claims background to be an integral part of their client focussed initiative.  If you have a high level of claims knowledge, Canadian technical P&C claims ability, working knowledge of reinsurance terms and concepts with the ability to deliver excellent customer service, let’s get in touch!

The claims expert will be a hands-on manager of individual higher exposure/complicated claims, is responsible for conducting outside claim audits and client visits, and initiate regular contact with internal underwriters, actuaries and accounting staff. You will also require the ability to review and analyse overall loss portfolios. 

Title: Treaty Claims Expert

Location: Downtown Toronto

Responsibilities

Oversee and manage a portfolio of reinsurance claims as well as certain high level excess claims:

  • Evaluating, developing, reporting on and resolving complex and/or higher value individual claims
  • Approving financial transactions on claims within authority levels
  • Collaborating and assisting in the account management of assigned treaty accounts. Collaborating with other internal underwriting departments, including the MGA and staff members on specific books of business, with respect to the claim issues.  Serving as the local “face of the company” to Canadian clients for claim related purposes.
  • Conduct claim audits and provide marketing support relating to Cedants and brokers
  • Analyse loss and expense trends on loss portfolios and assist in the development and implementation of plans to improve results
  • Anticipate client needs and expectations and deliver superior customer service
  • Work effectively with others within the claim department, particularly with other claim experts and those staffing the claim administration unit, to ensure prompt turnaround and response to clients
  • Coordinate claims data relating to catastrophe losses which include Canadian exposures
  • Opportunity to contribute to the company’s international community of claims expertise by sharing knowledge and experience on a global basis
  • Keep abreast of claim and industry developments/trends in order  to maintain a high level of expertise
  • Along with the Vice President of Claims in Toronto, mentor and assist in the training of more junior claim staff
  • Participate in projects as required         

 Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of Insurance or reinsurance claims experience
  • University degree and CIP completed or in progress
  • Experience with MGA/TPA program business is preferred
  • Ability to handle claims relating to multiple property and casualty business
  • Strong claims knowledge and handling including account management
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to present ideas in a group setting
  • Strong ability to Analyse data and information is required
