Title: Senior Actuarial Associate - Reserving (P&C) 
Location:   Downtown Toronto, Work from home for now. 
Reports to:  VP, Corporate Actuarial 

This opportunity encompasses a variety of responsibilities and oversight, including but not limited to the following:


  • Quarterly assessment of claims and premium liabilities, including setting of assumptions and assessing the impact of assumption changes
  • Compilation of quarterly reserving management reporting, complete with analysis and communication, including Board and management presentations
  • Coordinating auditor and regulatory requests
  • Assisting in developing business planning and forecasting assumptions
  • Working closely with the VP, to draft the Appointed Actuaries Report
  • Working closely with several teams, not limited to Claims, Underwriting, Finance, Risk, IFRS17 project team, and Head Office for various reporting, modelling, and data assumptions/trends

People Management:

  • Managing the Actuarial Analyst and dotted line oversight to the Actuarial Co-op student(s)
  • Providing technical training and mentoring (guidance and review), performance management, and development to direct reports
  • Contributing to an engaging and collaborative work environment that supports in attracting top talent to the organization

Continuous Improvement:

  • Streamlining reserve setting and reporting processes
  • Leveraging analytics to reinforce presentation of results
  • Keeping abreast of the Canadian Property & Casualty industry knowledge and developments


  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, or equivalent
  • ACAS/ACIA or working towards FCIA
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty work experience
  • Experience with reserving and financial forecasting preferred
  • Experience in a people manager capacity
  • Keen strategic thinking, business acumen, and problem-solving skills
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to make technical decisions (e.g., modeling decisions, data decisions) with demonstrated sound judgement in actuarial decision making
  • Well developed organizational skills, with the ability to analyze current processes and procedures and recommend and implement improvements
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work in all areas of the company collaboratively to achieve results under tight deadlines
  • Ability to handle several diverse projects and coordinate the activities of others in a performance-oriented culture
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). MS Access and/or Power BI (or comparable data visualization tools) are an asset
  • Knowledge of IFRS17 is an asset
